I know it’s not easy to eat a healthy breakfast in the morning when your mornings are packed with getting yourself ready, making lunches and having your kids dressed and out the door on time. But if your breakfast consists of coffee and a donut or some other carb-y food, it is definitely time to upgrade your morning routine. With a little bit of planning and preparation you can ditch the donut habit and replace it with one of these energy boosting breakfast ideas.
1. Nut-butter toast with cow’s milk,soy, hemp or oat milk. Have a slice of whole grain bread with one tablespoon of Peanut Butter, almond butter or other nut butter with your choice of milk. Make sure it’s a milk which contains protein. (Almond and coconut milk have little to no protein). Protein will help you feel fuller for longer.
2. Greek youghurt parfait. One cup of plain Greek yoghurt with 1/2 cup of fruit, 1 tablespoon of ground flax seed and sweeten to taste with honey or agave nectar.
3.My Bircher Muesli. You can make this the night before or in the morning, then all you have to do is eat.
4. Mango Lazy-Lassi. For a super quick breakfast, mix 2 cups of Kefir with about 1/4 cup Mango juice add some flax oil or ground flax seeds and stir.
5. Two boiled eggs with Ryvita, Wasa or other crispbread. Boil some eggs on sunday and keep in the fridge. Come Monday all you have to do is peel and eat. This also makes a great high protein mid-morning snack.
