Eating healthy does not have to be expensive, with these steals, your body and your wallet will thank you. Besides I love these items and you’ll see why!
Here are my 5 Costco must haves:
1. Olivia’s Organics Power Greens: This 16 oz triple washed container of spinach and kale is about $5. Other grocery stores charge the same for half the amount. For a quick lunch or dinner, just add a protein such as grilled chicken, small can of tuna or tofu. Drizzle with some dressing and you have a nutritious meal.
2. Fage Greek Yogurt: This 3 lb container of 0% fat yogurt costs only $6.50. Another steal and since I eat it almost everyday, I hate to run out. One cup has 23 g protein! I have it for breakfast with fresh or dried fruit, nuts, Chia seeds and sweetened with a bit of Agave.
3. Oats: For $7.69 you get 10lbs! of oatmeal. Yes, I know it’s a lot but if you make granola all the time like I do, you use it up quickly. Do I need to mention that oatmeal is also packed with fiber? One cup has 8 g fiber, 4 g of soluble fiber. Women need about 25 g fiber a day, men about 38g. And for those of you who don’t have time to cook oats in the morning, try my Bircher Muesli
4. Walnuts: A 3 lb bag costs $13. High in omega-3 fatty acids, high in antioxidants and high in fiber. Helps lower cholesterol and has been found to help promote the good bacteria in your gut. Another must have, I add these to my granola, yogurt or cereal.
5. Chia Seeds: These little gems are high in omega-3 fatty acids, which may help lower cholesterol, triglycerides and high blood pressure. They also contain minerals and are high in fiber (2 tablespoons contain 10 g fiber) Chia seeds can be sprinkled on anything, yoghurt, cereal, added to pancake or muffin mix, you name it.
